Faced with the disruptive brutality of the new American administration, Europe has only one choice: to balance power.
Any other attitude would immediately lead to submission to the worst possible scenarios, in this case submission to Putin on a strategic level and economic regression through isolationism.
Trump's United States has the right to break with the globalisation it has shaped, and we have the right to reject the protectionism it wants to impose on us.
Whatever Mr Trump may think, we are no longer in the 19th century and its outdated formulas that provoked so many crises and fuelled so many conflicts.
Europe has the strength to resist these ploys and it has many allies to fight back. It just needs to learn how to use the balance of power more effectively, and it is clear that it is learning fast.

It can bring together new partners, from Canada to Japan, via Australia and South Korea.
It is right to remain open to negotiation, since the announcements of the US Executive are so absurd they could collapse of their own accord simply because of reality.
But Europe is also preparing for a showdown, if only to live up to the tribute paid to it by Donald Trump, who finds it ‘tough’ and so powerful that it has ‘looted, stolen, etc.’ from the United States!
Its response, if necessary, must be swift to push back the prophets of doom who will trigger a global crisis.
Unless American citizens quickly take care of the situation themselves!
